PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device that, in opening the inside of a carriage to the outside to perform cleaning of an optical element and maintenance such as alignment, can improve working efficiency by enabling an operator to easily lay a feeder and preventing damage to the device caused by the contact between the optical element and the feeder; and an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: Wiring processing on harnesses (80) are collectively performed at a predetermined position on a side wall on an opening/closing fulcrum side of a scanning unit (43); a lid-like holding member (62) is rotated with the opening/closing fulcrum as the substantial rotation center; the lid-like holding member (62) is opened to a housing (61) to enable exposure of an optical element inside the housing (61) to the outside. In performing maintenance work of the inside of the housing (61), a small distance of movement of the harnesses (80) can prevent the possibility of the contact between the harnesses (80) and other members, simplify laying of a feeder, and achieve both prevention of damage to the device and improvement of working efficiency. |
