PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a particulate matter detection sensor element configured to prevent electrode dispersion with improved durability, and a particulate matter detection sensor.SOLUTION: A sensor element 1 detects a particulate matter in a gas to be measured. A particulate matter detection sensor includes the sensor element. The sensor element 1 includes an insulating substrate 2 having a surface 21 on which the particulate material sticks, and a particulate matter detection section 3 which is formed on the surface 21. The particulate matter detection section 3 is formed by partially exposing on the surface 21 at least one pair of detection electrodes 31 having different polarities and facing each other. The detection electrode 3 consists primarily of an alloy of Pt and at least one kind of metal selected from a group including Rh, Ru, Ir, and Os. The content of the metal in the alloy is 0.5-50 percent by mass in 100 percent by mass in total of Pt and the metal. |
