The method involves detecting and transporting foil bags (10) by retention heads of a handling equipment-transfer conveyer. The foil bags are detected at an exposed outer side of a pocket (11), at a front pocket wall and rear pocket walls (14) and/or at flaps (12) i.e. wrapping flaps, resting against the pocket walls by the retention heads by suction air. The foil bags are held by suction holders attached at the retention heads. The suction holders are operated in a region of the flaps and at a free region of the pocket walls attached to the flaps. An independent claim is also included for a device for handling a foil bag.
