A backlight unit according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a DC-DC converter for converting a first voltage into a second voltage in response to a driving pulse signal; and a driving control unit for adjusting reference voltage in response to an over-current control signal, and outputting the driving pulse signal which adjusts the level of the second voltage. The driving control unit adjusts the reference voltage to be increased earlier than the second voltage by a predetermined time in response to the over-current control signal when the second voltage is increased, and adjusts the reference voltage to be decreased later than the second voltage by a predetermined time in response to the over-current control signal when the second voltage is decreased.
