The invention relates to a method for monitoring the surroundings of a vehicle environment, in which surroundings data of a vehicle (1, 2) are determined by means of an environment sensor system (3), the determined data are then transmitted to a mobile unit (4) are displayed thereon. To this end, a local position of the mobile unit (4) is determined with respect to the vehicle (1, 2) and the environment data are displayed on the mobile unit (4) as a function of the determined local position of the mobile unit (4).
