A vessel mooring system (50) includes a rotatable pulley wheel (66) constituting a buoy floatable on a water surface (16) for connection to a vessel (12). A tether including a ballast chain (56) and mooring rope (58) is secured to an anchor block (52) on the seabed (20). The mooring rope extends around the wheel with portions of the rope extending downwards on opposite sides of the wheel and one end of the rope being attached to a spar-buoy that is pivotable relative to the anchor block. When the vessel moves from a first position directly above the anchor block, e.g. due to wind, it moves the wheel (buoy) further from the block, causing the rope to travel around, and rotate, the buoy, whereby slack in the chain is reduced. The weight of the chain and buoyancy of the spar buoy urge the vessel towards the first position.
|
