The present invention relates to an initial transparent display device which becomes a transparent state in an initial stage so as to reduce power consumption, and a method for driving the same. The initial transparent display device of the present invention comprises: a light blocking panel including a common electrode formed on a lower substrate, a protection film formed on the common electrode, a pixel electrode formed on the protection film, a lower vertical alignment layer formed to cover the pixel electrode, an upper substrate which face and is coupled to the lower substrate, an upper vertical alignment layer formed on a rear surface of the upper substrate, and a liquid crystal formed between the lower and upper vertical alignment layers, and vertically arranged in the initial stage; a display panel arranged in an upper portion of the light blocking panel to display an image; and a driving circuit unit for driving the light blocking panel and the display panel. |
