PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide compositions including novel vaccines and pharmaceutical compositions, and methods of application.SOLUTION: The invention relates to compositions including vaccines and pharmaceutical compositions for inducing or enhancing an immune response based on a discovery of useful immunological adjuvant properties in a synthetic glucopyranosyl lipid adjuvant (GLA) that is provided in substantially homogeneous form, and methods. The synthesis GLA having a chemically defined composition provides a consistent vaccine component from lot to lot without the fluctuations in contaminants or activity that compromise natural-product adjuvants. The invention also relates to vaccines and pharmaceutical compositions containing GLA, one or more kinds of antigens, a Toll-like receptor (TLR) agonist, a coadjuvant, and a carrier such as a pharmaceutical carrier. |
