[Problem] The purpose of the invention is to provide porous silica particles having a small specific surface area and a large pore volume, to provide a method for producing the particles, and to provide a cosmetic in which porous silica particles endowed with such characteristics are compounded as a texture improver. [Solution] These porous silica particles comprise fine silica particles having a loosely packed structure; the average particle diameter being 0.5-25 μm, the specific surface area determined by the BET method being 5-60 m2/cm3, and the pore volume being 0.35-2.0 mL/g. Furthermore, the most frequent pore size (Dm) in the pore size distribution (X axis: pore size; Y axis: value obtained by differentiating pore volume with respect to pore size) of the porous silica particles is 100 < Dm < 4000 nm.
