Provided is a falling film evaporator in which the refrigerant flow speed in the vicinity of a vapor outlet tube can be minimized. In this falling film evaporator (1) a refrigerant in a gas-liquid two-phase state is supplied to the interior of a tank (10) and the liquid refrigerant is made to fall over a group (20) of heat transfer tubes through a second-stage refrigerant tub (35), with an upper cover (36) being provided above the second-stage refrigerant tub (35) in the interior of the tank (10). Vertical plates (40) are provided between the second-stage refrigerant tub (35) and the upper cover (36) in the lengthwise direction of the heat transfer tubes (21), at different positions than the position of a vapor outlet tube (18), thereby suppressing the flow of refrigerant flowing in the lengthwise direction of the heat transfer tubes (21) between the second-stage refrigerant tub (35) and the upper cover (36). |
