The present invention relates to a communication method comprising the following steps: a) a client device (T1) capable of implementing a single TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) connection or a multi-path connection, or a relay device (R) connected to said client device (T1), both capable of implementing a multi-path connection, receives (E1), in the absence of a multi-path connection between said client device (T1) or said relay device (R), and another client device (T2, T3), information (MPTCP_STATUS) relating to the possible compatibility with the multi-path connections of at least one intermediate node placed on a path connecting the client device (T1) or said relay device (R), respectively, to said other client device (T2, T3); and b) the client device (T1) or said relay device (R) records (E2) the status (PATH CHECKED) of said path as regards the possible compatibility thereof with multi-path connections. The invention can be used in the MPTCP (Multi-Path TCP) protocol. |
