PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce maintenance work in an apparatus for carbonizing wood fuel pellets formed by compression molding or heat compression molding of a plant-derived powdery raw material such as sawdust powder and wood flour.SOLUTION: The powdery raw material has dust coal mixed as a heat-generating material. A microwave generator 2 of the carbonization apparatus irradiates the heat-generating material with a microwave from a microwave source 21 to generate heat. This enables wood fuel pellets 8 to be obtained in an uncarbonized state, which can further be red-heated to provide from black charcoal to, at a higher temperature, white charcoal. Further, the wood fuel pellets 8 are not stored in an electromagnetically shielded housing 22 as is but in a guide pipe 23 such as a glass pipe or a ceramic pipe, and are transported by a screw 61. Therefore, a high temperature gas such as tar generated from the wood fuel pellets 8 does not contact with and adhere to an inside surface of the housing 22 whose temperature is close to room temperature. Thus, maintenance work such as cleaning is reduced and productivity can be improved. |
