1. An apparatus for curving an elongated medical device, the apparatus comprising:
a forming unit, having an external surface, positioned adjacent a path along which the elongated medical device is advanced, the forming unit having a support and a heat source; a bending tool, having an external surface, configured to move with respect to the forming unit and to apply a bending force to the elongated medical device such that a distal portion of the elongated medical device is imparted with a permanent curve greater than that on a proximal portion of the elongated medical device; and a barrier positioned to prevent the elongated medical device from contacting the external surface of the forming unit and the external surface of the bending tool, the barrier being configured to permit movement of the bending tool with respect to the forming unit while maintaining sterility of the elongated medical device.
