The method comprises: after a synchronous control node of a cluster on a first channel in an overlapping channel is added with a cluster on a second channel in the overlapping channel, sending cluster merging indication information on the first channel to indicate that membership control nodes on the first channel are added with the cluster on the second channel; after sending the cluster merging indication information, the synchronous control node monitoring beacon service periods on the first channel within a predetermined cluster monitoring period, the predetermined cluster monitoring period comprising a first monitoring period and a second monitoring period; after the first monitoring period expires, the synchronous control node initiating a cluster coordination mechanism on the first channel if at least one beacon service period is monitored to be in a non-idle state within the second monitoring period. Through the embodiment of the present invention, whether cluster merging fails or succeeds can be determined, and when the judging result shows that cluster merging fails, execution of the cluster merging mechanism begins to avoid interference between two clusters, thereby realizing seamless switching between cluster merging and cluster coordination.
