A handover method is provided in embodiments of the present invention. The method includes that: when detecting that the service of a terminal in the E-UTRAN is a small packet service, an eNB generates a handover request message; the eNB sends the handover request message to a MME, wherein the handover request message comprises the identification information of the terminal and the identification information of the small packet service, and the handover request message is used to request the MME to perform across RAT handover so that the terminal switches from the E-UTRAN to the UTRAN for performing the small packet service. In this way, when the eNB detects that the service of the terminal in the E-UTRAN is the small packet service, the eNB sends the handover request message to the MME so that the MME performs across RAT handover and switches the terminal performing the small packet service from the E-UTRAN to the UTRAN. In this way, after switched to the UTRAN, the terminal performs the small packet service in the UTRAN, so as to reduce data packet padding and improve transmission efficiency. |
