PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diffraction grating that separates incident light into a plurality of rays of diffraction light and can be efficiently manufactured.SOLUTION: A diffraction grating 1 has a periodic structure where a plurality of retardation layers 4 and 14 are laminated, in which a first strip area A and a second strip area B having different optical axis directions are formed alternately and repeatedly in a surface perpendicular to incident light, and the refractive index periodically changes to the incident light. The strip areas A and B of the retardation layer 4 are arranged non-parallel to the strip areas of the other retardation layer 14.
