519,985. Brake drums. MIDLAND MOTOR CYLINDER CO., Ltd., and TOGHILL, E. C. Oct. 7, 1938, No. 29070. [Class 103 (i)] A brake liner d of relatively hard metal such as cast iron or steel is split as at f and has an external screw-thread as shown by which it can be attached to the drum c of aluminium or magnesium alloy or other relatively lighter metal by screwing. The screw-thread is of buttress form and of steep pitch so that flats e are left to give a good contacting surface for conducting heat from the liner to the drum. The liner is arranged to screw into the drum by the application of the brake shoes in the normal direction of drum rotation and to abut at its end on the.drum at g and may be prevented from screwing outwardly with reverse rotation by a detachable flange on the other end of the drum or by a pin and slot drive. Studs sinking in inclined slots may be substituted for the screw thread.
