The device (20) has arms (202,203) on which ultrasound transmitter element (3) and several ultrasound receiver elements (2,2',2'') are located. The ultrasound transmitter element is arranged to pressurize multitude of ultrasound receiver elements with ultrasound signal. The ultrasound receiver elements are laid out to detect the edge of the material web in a measuring range of more than 10 mm vertical to a direction of travel of the material web. An ultrasonic transducer element is provided with piezo-composite material such as polymer and piezo-ceramic fibers.
