The disclosed invention relates to a robot cleaner and a method for controlling the same. The robot cleaner comprises: a main body; an infrared (IR) sensor for receiving IR signals, to be transmitted from a plurality of directions, of a signal transmission device; a driving motor for moving the main body towards the signal transmission device in accordance with control of a control unit; and the control unit generating a direction estimation value of the signal transmission device so as to cancel reflected wave signals from among the IR signals, and controlling operation of the main body through the driving motor on the basis of the verified direction estimation value of the signal transmission device.
