A semi-conductor element has opposed faces which are both urged into engagement with respective electrical contacts by means including a mass of compressed resilient electrically insulating material. The element 3, preferably a silicon controlled rectifier, is inserted between a metallic header 1 and a phosphor-bronze spring contact 15 carried by a header post 5, and a mass 17 of silicon rubber is compressed between the contact 15 and a metal cap 8. A second spring contact (16, not shown) similar to the contact 15 and carried by a header post (6) may be provided, both contacts engaging gold foil electrodes on the element and being manufactured as the " teeth " of a " comb," the teeth being bent to shape and fixed to the header posts before being severed from the comb. In modified arrangements a spring is inserted between the mass 17 and the cap 8, the contacts 15, 16 are non-resilient (e.g. of soft copper), the mass 17 is wedge shaped and positioned between the cap 8 and the header posts 5, 6, the mass is stepped to engage stepped contacts, and the electrodes on the upper surface of the element are concentric or asymmetric. |
