Means for cleaning the space beneath a carding machine comprises a pressurised air chamber 5 with a trough-like upper surface composed of plates 12 which overlap to form nozzles 19 parallel to the rollers of the machine. The nozzles are directed towards the lowest part of the trough where at least one suction slot 16a, 16b is formed in a duct 6 to suck away waste. Two suction slots are provided and the duct is positioned so that slot 16a collects disposable waste from the input end of the machine while slot 16b collects re-usable waste from the stripper 3. A blower 20 with a rotating filter 22 and filter cleaning member 23 are positioned in the wall of the chamber 5. The side walls of chamber 5 are upwardly extended to form flanges 11a.
