<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make possible highly accurate detection of at least two kinds of detection objects emitting light rays of mutually different wavelength bands even in the presence of ambient light. <P>SOLUTION: Spectroscopic information on the respective detection wavelength bands (red and white) of the head lamps of an oncoming vehicle and the tail lamps of a vehicle ahead is obtained from image data picked up by an image pickup device; at the same time polarized light information on the detection wavelength bands matching the pertinent spectroscopic information is acquired from the image data; the head lamps and the tail lamps are distinguished from each other according to the acquired spectroscopic information; and the polarized light information is used to distinguish direct light rays from the head lamps and the tail lamps and reflected light rays from the rain-wetted road surface from each other. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT</p> |
