A hydraulic or pneumatic motor comprises: first and second cylinder means 204a, 204b respectively defining first and second chambers 234a, 234b, and a double-ended piston means 226 having a first end 226a and a second end 226b. Each chamber comprises an inlet for inflow of fluid and an outlet for outflow of fluid 38c-38f, the inlet and the outlet being operatively coupled to a fluid transmission system. The piston means 226 is reciprocally moveable so that the first end 226a and the second end 226b move alternately into and out of the first and second chambers 234a, 234b to alternately decrease and increase the volume of the first and second chambers, respectively. The motor also comprises control means arranged to permit and prevent flow of fluid into and out of the first and second chambers 234a 234b through the inlet and outlet, to enable reciprocating movement of the piston means 226. The control means comprises actuating means 221 coupled to the piston means 226. Movement of one of the first and second ends 226a, 226b of the piston means 226 to at least a predetermined distance into the respective one of the first and second chambers 234a, 234b causes the actuating means to operate the control means to control flow of fluid. This causes the other of the first and second ends 226b, 226a to move into the other of the first and second chambers 234b, 234a. |
