A method for minimizing plugged die slots during extrusion of a honeycomb green body in the preparation of an ultra-thin wall ceramic honeycomb comprising the steps of: providing a batch composition selected from the group consisting of a cordierite batch composition and an aluminum titanate batch composition; optionally providing a pore former material; providing a binder material and water; mixing the batch composition with the pore former, binder, and water to form a plasticized extrudable paste; extruding the paste through a die to form an ultra-thin wall honeycomb green body; and firing the green body to form an ultra-thin wall honeycomb having a wall thickness of less than 4-mil and a cell density of 600 cells per square inch or greater, the honeycomb comprising a ceramic material selected from the group consisting of cordierite and aluminum titanate; wherein providing a binder means providing a water soluble alkyl ether of cellulose binder having a count of less than 300 insoluble fibers per gram of binder material as measured for a 1 wt % aqueous solution of binder material.
