1. A method for forming a highly porous glass membrane comprising the steps of:
combining glass particles with a foaming agent to form a combination; fragmentizing said combination to produce a homogeneous mixture; combining said homogeneous mixture with a binder and water to produce a slurry; forming said slurry into a glass membrane; curing said glass membrane at an ambient room temperature; heating said glass membrane from said ambient room temperature to a first elevated temperature over a first specified period of time sintering said glass membrane from said first elevated temperature to a second elevated temperature over a second specified period of time wherein said step of sintering said glass membrane comprises: incrementing said sintering heat applied to said glass membrane at a rate substantially between 0.1° C. per minute and 15° C. per minute to form pores of a predetermined size in said glass membrane; and cooling said glass membrane. |
