According to the present invention, a method for recognizing a tire through a tire image photographed by using a terminal and a device thereof are disclosed. The device for recognizing a tire converts a circular tire portion in a photographed image into a straight image, extracts a recognition target letter region in the straight image, and recognizes a learning letter the most similar to the extracted recognition target letter region in a pre-built learning letter group as a letter of the recognition target letter region.
