The method involves determining an indicator from measurement of physiological and behavioral parameters e.g. heart activities, of a driver to evaluate stress of the driver. Another indicator is determined from measurement of the parameters relative to environment of a motor vehicle and the driver inside the vehicle to evaluate a criticality of a situation. Assistance appropriate to the situation criticality and/or a state of stress is generated when one of the indicators reaches a preset threshold. The assistance allowed to reduce one of the indicators below the threshold, is monitored. An independent claim is also included for a system for managing stress of a driver of a motor vehicle in a driving situation.
