A method for producing an optically active aldehyde represented by the formula (1): wherein R1 and R2 are each independently selected from the group consisting of an alkyl group having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms, which may have a substituent, an alkenyl group having from 2 to 20 carbon atoms, which may have a substituent, a 3- to 8-membered alicyclic group which may have a substituent, an aryl group having from 6 to 15 carbon atoms, which may have a substituent, and an aralkyl group having from 7 to 12 carbon atoms, which may have a substituent; R1 and R2 are groups different from each other; and * is an asymmetric carbon atom, the method comprising asymmetrically isomerizing an allyl alcohol represented by the formula (2) in the presence of a ruthenium complex and a base: wherein R1 and R2 have the same meanings as described above. |
