receiving a request to perform staging or destaging operations with respect to an area of a cache, wherein an asynchronous discard scan scans a cache directory corresponding to the cache to determine tracks to discard from the cache, and wherein the staging or destaging operations with respect to the area of the cache occurs between the cache and one or more storage devices; and in response to determining that more than a threshold number of asynchronous discard scans are waiting to be performed, avoiding satisfying the request to perform the staging or the destaging operations or a read hit with respect to the area of the cache. |
