发明名称 Process for producing improved furnace black pigments
摘要 An ink pigment is produced by treating a furnace carbon black with an oxidizing agent more reactive than molecular oxygen (e.g. nitric acid, nitrogen oxides or ozone) to increase the volatile content of the black by at least 100% by weight of the volatile content of the starting material and then subjecting the oxidized black to fluid energy milling. The furnace black used is preferably a low structure black having an average electron microscope particle diameter of between 20 and 30 millimicrons, an oil absorption factor of between 50 and 140 lbs. of oil per 100 lbs. of black and an oil absorption factor to average electron microscope particle diameter ratio of no greater than 6. When nitric acid is used as the oxidizing agent, the black is preferably mixed uniformly with an aqueous solution containing from 5-50% of nitric acid by weight and the mixture dried between 200 DEG and 350 DEG F.ALSO:Furnace carbon black (which is to be used as an ink pigment) is treated with an oxidising agent (e.g. HNO3 nitrogen oxides or azone) to increase its volatile content by at least 100% by weight of its initial volatile content and then subjected to fluid energy milling. The carbon black starting material is preferably a low structure furnace black having an average electron microscope particle diameter of between 20 and 30 millimicrons an oil absorption factor of between 50 and 140 lbs of oil per 100 lbs of black and an oil absorbtion factor to average electron microscope particle diameter ratio of no greater than 6.
