<p>This computer-implemented invention, which contains a system and a method, makes it possible to communicate a speed recommendation to each traffic participant in each region of a selected motorway network/road network in real time, said speed recommendation being determined and validated in real time. Adherence to the speed recommendation counteracts a traffic jam development predicted/detected by means of this invention and maintains the flow of traffic. This invention effectively counteracts the development of traffic jams and slow traffic on motorways/road networks. The traffic data, which are continuously collected by means of a relatively finely meshed network, are used as the basis of a real-time analysis of the current flow of traffic. On the basis of the collected data and by means of suitable techniques/methods, short-term predictions of the traffic development are made for each region of the entire examined motorway/road network. Critical traffic conditions or tendencies for the development of such critical traffic conditions are detected or predicted early, and sensible recommended speeds are determined by road segment in real time and in an automated manner in order to prevent such critical traffic conditions. Thus, the present invention makes it possible, if necessary, to provide a recommended speed in real time to each traffic participant at all times and at each location in a motorway network/road network, adherence to which recommended speed leads to the prevention of critical traffic condition predicted by means of the invention or the avoidance of the expansion of a detected critical traffic condition.</p> |
