This virus-resistant tobacco contains a mutation in the translation initiation factor eIF(iso)4E gene, thereby causing the production of eIF(iso)4E proteins that are non-functional in relation to a virus, or the suppression of eIF(iso)4E gene expression. The amount of eIF(iso)4E gene expression in this virus-resistant tobacco is 20% or less of the amount in the wild type.
