At least one sensor (3-1, 3-2, fig 3) is used to monitor a driver, D, to identify a driver distracted state, preferably when the driver is looking at a one of a plurality of vehicle systems for a predetermined time period and/or frequency. The output of a visual notification in a display region proximal to or coincident with an area where the driver is looking within the vehicle, V, is controlled based on identification of the driver distracted state. A 3D virtual projection representative of the line of sight of the driver may be used to determine where the driver is looking. A method and apparatus for inhibiting one or more functions of a first vehicle system, A7, A9, A17 proximal to or coincident with one of a plurality of areas of interest where the driver is looking, based on identification of the driver distracted state within the vehicle, V, is also disclosed. |
