The present invention provides an image processing device and an image processing method, whereby noise that has been amplified by a super-resolution process can be reduced using a configuration having a reduced circuit size and a reduced memory capacity, while retaining the edge components. In this image processing device, a gradient direction detection unit (302) selects a pixel from among the pixels around each pixel in a first image (D101) in such a manner that there is only a minimal gradient in the direction from each pixel to the respective selected adjacent pixel, and then outputs the positions of the selected pixels as minimal gradient pixel positions (D302). A smoothing unit (303) then sets each pixel in a second image (D102) as a target pixel and applies a smoothing process to the pixels around each target pixel by use of the minimal gradient pixel positions (D302) so as to determine each pixel value of an output image (DOUT). |
