摘要 A head-mounted display (HMD) for displaying a sequence of stereoscopic images of a virtual environment, comprising: a linear motion sensor to detect HMD position; an angular motion sensor to detect HMD orientation; a texture buffer that stores left and right eye image textures showing pre-rendered versions of possible scenes in the virtual world; a renderer to render left and right images by mapping the left and right textures to respective spheres or polyhedrons, wherein the direction of the render viewpoints is determined by the orientation of the HMD; wherein the images are rendered at a higher rate than the textures are refreshed in the buffer. Textures may be equirectangular or icosahedral projections and may be spatially or temporally compressed. Scenes may depict progression along a path in the virtual environment corresponding to a path in a real environment (eg. route of a passenger on a theme park amusement ride or rollercoaster). HMD location and orientation may be predicted using a Kalman filter with a dynamic model. Texture buffer may be updated at 60 Hertz. Images may be rendered at 600 Hz and output to stereoscopic display without writing to a frame buffer.
