An image processing apparatus comprises an image data compression unit (6), a two-dimensional code generation unit (4) and a two-dimensional code placement unit (5). The image data compression unit (6) uses a certain lossy coding system to compress the image data of an image including two-dimensional codes obtained by designating presence or absence of concentration for the respective ones of two-dimensionally arranged cells. The two-dimensional code generation unit (4) generates two-dimensional codes by setting the size of the cells to be an integral multiple of the coding block size in the lossy coding system used by the image data compression unit (6) in a main scan direction and in a subsidiary scan direction. The two-dimensional code placement unit (5) places, in the image, the two-dimensional codes generated by the two-dimensional code generation unit such that the front position of the two-dimensional codes generated by the two-dimensional code generation unit (4) is placed at a distance, from the front position of the image, which is an integral multiple of the coding block size in the main scan direction and in the subsidiary scan direction. The image data compression unit (6) then uses the lossy coding system to compress the image data of the image in which the two-dimensional codes are placed by the two-dimensional code placement unit (5). |
