A biometric authentication method and terminal, the method comprising: acquiring an operation action for an application object input by a user and biometric authentication information input by the user; querying the biometric authentication level of the operation action for the application object; acquiring an authentication threshold corresponding to the biometric authentication level; conducting a matching operation on the biometric authentication information input by the user and the stored biometric authentication information registered by the user so as to obtain a matching result; and comparing the matching result with the authentication threshold to conduct an authentication operation. An embodiment of the present invention determines different authentication thresholds for the operation actions of different biometric authentication levels so as to balance a relationship between the security and convenience of a biometric authentication operation. Also provided in the embodiment of the present invention is another biometric authentication method capable of intelligently acquiring, according to the current state of information, the operation action for the application object input by the user, thus further improving the operation convenience of a terminal.
