The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method of controlling a lamp of a vehicle, and more specifically, to an apparatus and a method of adaptively controlling a lamp, wherein the apparatus operates with a proximity sensor and a smart key to adaptively control brightness of a lamp according to a change in distance from a vehicle when a driver moves a vehicle at night. The apparatus of adaptively controlling a lamp according to the present invention comprises: at least one lamp to illuminate around a vehicle; at least one proximity sensor to sense a distance from an object relative to the vehicle; a start event detection unit to detect a start event generated in the vehicle; and a control unit to control brightness of the lamp based on a temporal change of object distance information acquired through the proximity sensor if the start event detection unit detects the start event. |
