Porous metallic products are prepared by a process including impregnating a metallic powder or a porous product (e.g. produced by sintering) with a solution of an oxygen containing compound of phosphorus (e.g. an ammonium salt of phosphorous or phosphoric acid), optionally drying the body at 100‹ C. and reducing the phosphorus compound with heated hydrogen followed by diffusion into the metal of the phosphorus. In the case of powders the reduction may take place during the sintering operation. Examples refer to the treatment of Ni and Cr base alloys containing Ni and Sn.</p> |
