Solid suspensions are dewatered by adding to the suspension containing not more than 20% by weight of solid an amphoteric polyelectrolyte of M.W. not less than 100,000 and side chain functional groups of molar cohesive increment not less than 5 links calories/mole, thickening the suspension, adjusting the pH to not less than 8 and dewatering the sludge. A granular thickening aid is added prior to the dewatering step.</p> |
