A bend stiffener, for resisting excessive bending of an elongate underwater member in a region where it meets a rigid structure, comprises: a sleeve 1 and a rigid interface mount 3. The sleeve 1 receives the underwater member, and is capable of some flexure. The rigid interface mount 3 is secured to the sleeve 1, and is suitable for attachment to the rigid structure. The rigid interface mount 3 comprises slots or holes (4, fig.4) which are alignable with corresponding slots, holes or recesses on the rigid structure such that the rigid interface mount 3 can be locked to the rigid structure via a locking means 2 which comprises projections (5, fig. 3) which pass through the slots or holes (4, fig.4) of the rigid interface mount 3 into the slots, holes or recesses of the rigid structure. The bend stiffener can be a mid-line bend stiffener. The sleeve 1 can be an elastomeric material with a frusto-conical shape, and can be moulded. The rigid interface mount can have a metallic tubular structure, and can be partially embedded within the sleeve. The locking means 2 may be a split ring which is clamped around the rigid interface mount 3. |
