According to one embodiment, an electronic device to and from which an AC adaptor is attachable and detachable includes a detecting module and a control module. The detecting module detects whether the AC adaptor is attached to the electronic device. The control module controls suppression and non-suppression of power consumption of the electronic device depending upon whether the detecting module detects that the AC adaptor is attached to the electronic device.
