(Also in Division F2] Scale is removed from an ingot 4 by spraying high pressure fluid through nozzles 1. The h. p. fluid is supplied through a pipe 8, a piston valve (in the position shown), and a pipe 7. In the intervals between spraying, a valve 13 is operated to cut-off the h.p. fluid supply to the surface 25' allowing low-pressure fluid to move the piston to the left Fig. 3 (not shown) cutting off the supply of h. p. fluid, and supplying 1. p. fluid to the nozzles through the passage 29. The ends of the piston are so arranged that the flow of one fluid cannot take place until the other end is sealed. The valve 13 may be associated with a safety device which prevents its operation if the h. p. fluid is not flowing.</p> |
