Provided are an image processing apparatus and method, with which, during radiographic interpretation of a large amount of volume data for which an area of interest has previously been established, interpretation can be accomplished through an interactive operation, as rapidly as possible and with no omissions. This image processing apparatus generates and displays two-dimensional images from a captured three-dimensional image, wherein the apparatus: receives an input signal pertaining to display control primary information that includes a two-dimensional-image display control input rate; calculates display control primary information from the input signal; calculates, on the basis of area of interest information and the display control primary information, display control secondary information that includes a two-dimensional-image display rate; and sequentially generates two-dimensional images on the basis of the display control secondary information. |
