Disclosed are a device and a method for controlling a device by a user. The disclosed device comprises: a detecting unit for detecting a first event performed by a user with respect to a plurality of devices including the device; a control unit for generating a second event according to the first event detected by the detecting unit; and an output unit for displaying the second event to a user. The control unit generates a command for performing the first event on the device as a function of the user′s response to the second event detected by the detecting unit. The disclosed device and method are suitable for providing the second event to enable the user to confirm the intention of the first event before the command corresponding to the first event from the user is performed.
