A method of generating travel data by a mobile device 102 of a user of a transport system, the method comprising the mobile device 102: receiving data transmitted from one or more beacons 101 of the transport system; and generating 205 travel data in dependence on the data received from the one or more beacons 101, wherein the travel data is representative of the users use of the transport system. The mobile device may determine that the signal broadcast by the beacons is data to be used to generate travel data. The travel data can be automatically generated by the mobile device in response to receiving data from the beacons. The data transmitted by the beacons may include beacon identification or beacon location information. The beacons may be BLUETOOTH (RTM) Low Energy (BLE) beacons. The travel data can be used to generate transaction data, such as payment data, which can be used in a transaction which can be carried out over a wireless network 103. Alternatively, the travel data can be transmitted over the wireless network 103. The travel data may be used to reduce the burden on a user and to improve the services provided to a user. |
