4,5 - Bis - (difluoramino) imidazolidin - 2 - one is prepared by reacting 1,2-bis-(difluoroamino) ethylene glycol with urea in an inert atmosphere in presence of a strongly water-absorbent or strongly water-reactive substance. Reaction may take place at -23 DEG C. by refluxing with difluoramino in the presence of fluorosulphonic acid or 96% sulphuric acid using methylene chloride as solvent and nitrogen as inert atmosphere. The 1,2-bis-(difluoroamino) ethylene glycol may be made by reaction of glyoxal and difluoramine in situ.
