An implantable medical device 10 such as an occluder or filter includes a support structure 12 comprising a helically coiled or wound spring constriction 15 in an intermediate passage 20 between two radially expandable end sections 16,18 such as stent rings 14 and which is twistable against spring bias in a direction opposite a direction of twist to open the passage constriction. A sleeve 30 of filter or occluding material attached to the ends 16 of the structure 12 and extending through the intermediate section twists on itself 50 to close the lumen through the sleeve 30. The device provides reliable closure for occlusion of filtering of a vessel, and may be delivered over a guide wire 62. In another embodiment, the support structure includes a wire (220, fig 5) which coils around the sleeve 30 to constrict the sleeve to close a lumen of the sleeve. |
