Process for treating water and treatment plant

A waste water (4) treatment process has a first reactor chamber (2) in which organic material (5) is broken down by micro-organisms (17) and surrendered to another chamber (3) in a partly de-watered condition. Organisms (17) and intact organic material (5) are tapped and especially fed back (7) to the first reactor chamber (2). The feedback flow (7) is subject to treatment of a predetermined intensity. The feedback is effected at first, second and third rates of fluid containing a pre-determined count of dead micro-organisms which have been killed by a biocide e.g. ozone. The average rate at which micro-organisms are removed from the reactor (2) and transferred to the second chamber (3) is greater than that at which the micro-organisms reproduce in the reactor (2).
