Improvements in or relating to window openers and window stays

A window stay comprising a first link 1 and a second link 2 pivotally attached to one another at their ends with an over-centre action 9; the first link is pivotally attached to a first mounting bracket 3; the second link 2 is connected to an adjustable shoe 5 pivotally mounted to a second bracket 4. The adjustable shoe 5 adjusts the effective length of the second link to adjust the distance between pivot points 9 and 10 to accommodate different installations such that packing shims and spacers are not required to mount bracket 3. Preferably the adjustable shoe provides coarse adjustment by locating pivot 10 in one of a plurality of pivot slots (7, fig.6) in adjustable shoe 5 providing 5mm increment adjustment and fine adjustment by variably clamping together adjustment shoe 5 and second link 2 having serrated teeth engaging with the adjustment shoe clamped by threaded fastener 6 in a slot within adjustment shoe 5. Two window stays may be used in tandem connected by an elongate shaft 12.
